Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Upon arrival, the check-in process was straightforward and the receptionist was very friendly. Our initial impression of the hotel and lobby was very positive.

Negative: Shortly after checking in, we realised the room did not match how it had been presented online. The Deluxe Room is advertised with photography suggesting a clear city view; however, the room directly faced an office building across the street with large windows. In reality, people in the building opposite could see directly into the room. The bed is positioned directly under the window and faces outward, with the shower door immediately behind it, resulting in very limited privacy. When we raised this with reception, we were informed that there is no privacy film on the windows. Given the level of visibility from the neighbouring building, we felt uncomfortable and decided not to stay the night. We explored alternatives, but no equivalent room matching the advertised description was available. We therefore made alternative arrangements at our own expense and relocated elsewhere. The property ultimately processed a refund following several rounds of communication. While this resolved the payment issue, it was described as a “gesture of goodwill,” despite the fact that consumer protection law provides a right to a refund where a service is materially misrepresented. After posting an honest review reflecting our experience, we were contacted by the property and asked to remove it on the basis that we had not stayed overnight. Our decision not to stay was directly due to the discrepancy between the advertised imagery and the actual room. Overall, we would recommend that the hotel update its photography and descriptions to more accurately reflect the rooms and avoid similar situations for future guests.
